The Foreign Device tab allows you to tell the server to connect to a remote BBMD device as a foreign BACnet client. This allows the client to receive BACnet broadcast messages from the remote BACnet network.
This mode can be used if the Events2HVAC server is located on a different subnet than the BACnet/IP network. There must be a BBMD device setup on the remote network and the appropriate UDP port must be allowed to pass through any firewalls between the foreign device client and the remote BBMD device. See section “Configuring Windows Firewall to Allow BACnet Communications”
Note: the server cannot operate as both a BBMD device and a foreign device to another BBMD device. Enabling foreign device will disable any BBMD functionality in the server.
Note: Even though broadcast traffic is received from the BBMD devices on other networks, there still needs to be an open direct network path to all the BACnet devices that need to be controlled by Events2HVAC.
